The Community Chest Dress Special Day 2009

The Community Chest Dress Special Day 2009 was held on 30 September 2009. More than 430,000 participants from over 1,200 corporations, government departments and educational institutions took part in this event and channeled over HK$18 million to the Chest's coffers. All funds raised will be allocated to develop and enhance the "Family & Child Welfare Services", "Employment Support Services", "Counselling Services" and "Services for Street Sleepers and Cage Residents" supported by the Chest.
A Cheque and Award Presentation Ceremony was held on 9 March 2010 to commend the outstanding organisations and their generous contributions towards local social welfare services. The Hon Henry Tang, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration of HKSAR officiated at the ceremony and presented awards to the outstanding organisations. Also presiding at the occasion were Mrs Margaret Leung, JP, Campaign Committee Chairman of The Community Chest and Co-Chairman Dr Dennis T L Sun, BBS, JP; Mr Joseph C Y Poon, Dress Special Day Organising Committee Chairman as well as Co-Chairman Mr Billy Yan-yu Ngok.
Among the participating organisations, HSBC encouraged their entire staff force to pitch in their support towards Dress Special Day. With the concerted efforts of employees and a matching donation from the bank, HSBC raised nearly HK$1.34 million and won the Top Fund-raiser Award for the seventeenth consecutive year. Hang Seng Bank and The Wharf (Holdings) Limited also rallied support from their staff for this event and won the Second and Third Top Fund-raiser Awards respectively. In the civil service sector, the Top Fund-raiser Award went to Legal Aid Department.
Dress Special Day not only received tremendous support from corporations and government departments, it also provided a channel for students to contribute to the community. In 2009, more than 340,000 students and teachers from nearly 600 schools participated in Dress Special Day. Approximately HK$10 million was raised which accounted for 54% of the total donations gathered through this event. This year, the Top Fund-raiser Award in the educational sector was presented to Kiangsu & Chekiang Primary School for the third consecutive year.
Mr Joseph C Y Poon, Dress Special Day Organising Committee Chairman, expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr John Chan, Animator of Postgal Workshop and his team for helping the Chest rejuvenate this event by designing and producing a brand new TV commercial and other promotional materials. Special tribute was paid to all event sponsors including Diamond Sponsor: Hang Seng Bank; Silver Sponsors: Hembly International Holdings Limited and Forever Living Products Asia Limited; Incentive Sponsors: Arome Bakery, Maxim’s Cakes, Fotomax, Lotto, Peak Tramways Company, Limited and Timberland Hong Kong Limited. Special thanks was also given to Harbour City, Times Square, Plaza Hollywood and Metro Broadcast Corporation Limited for their full support.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club, our Partner in charity, generously supports The Community Chest in helping to subsidise our administrative costs, enabling 100% of the donations to be allocated to our 148 member social welfare agencies.
