The Community Chest Flag Day 2009/10
Raised over HK$3.8 Million
The Community Chest Flag Day is not only a channel to solicit donations from the public to help the needy, but also a way to engage the younger generation to serve the community. Held on 14 November 2009, The Community Chest Flag Day 2009/10 had mobilised over 13,000 students and volunteers from more than 260 schools, educational institutions, Chest’s member agencies and other voluntary organisations to join the “Street Flag Sale” and “Gold Flag Sale”. The event has raised over HK$ 3.8 million to benefit the "Services for Physically Handicapped" subvented by the Chest.
Mr Patrick Nip, JP, Director of Social Welfare officiated at the Cheque and Award Presentation Ceremony held on 14 April 2010 at The Jockey Club Lecture Theatre, Olympic House. Also attending the ceremony were Mr Anson Chan, Chairman and Mr Stanley Yeung, Co-Chairman of 2009/10 Flag Day Organising Committee and other Committee Members.
At “Street Flag Sale”, with the concerted efforts of over 620 students brought Kiangsu-Chekiang College (Shatin) the “Award for the Highest Number of Participants” in School Category for the fourth consecutive year as well as the First Runner-up among “Schools Attaining the Highest Number of Certificates of Merit” and Second Runner-up in “Top Ten Participation Rate”. Hong Kong Red Cross received the “Award for Community Chest’s Member Agency with Highest Number of Participants”. At “Gold Flag Sale”, Chan’s CreativeSchool raised a significant amount of funds and was presented the “Top Fund-raiser Award” in School Category for the sixth consecutive year. The school also won the Champion title in “Outstanding Contribution” (Individual Category), as well as the Champion and First Runner-up title in “Outstanding Award for Per Capita Contribution”. “Top Fund-raiser Award” in Educational Institution Category was presented to Creative Kindergarten for the eighth consecutive year.
The Community Chest expressed sincere gratitude to Laser Art Studio Limited for sponsoring flag stickers for the fourteenth consecutive year; KFC, PizzaExpress (HK) Limited and Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Limited for sponsoring incentives; Crown Worldwide (HK) Ltd for sponsoring materials needed on the Flag Day; Kwan Man Hee Charitable Trust, Heritage International Holdings Limited, Richfield Group Holdings Limited, Mr Anson Chan and Mr Stanley Yeung for their generous sponsorship. Special tribute was also paid to The Bank of East Asia, DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd, Hang Seng Bank, Main Treasury, HSBC; and volunteers from Hong Kong Adventure Corps, Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, The City University of Hong Kong Alumni Association, The Convocation of the City University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps for providing logistical assistance on the event day.
Thanks to a generous annual grant from The Hong Kong Jockey Club to support the administrative expenses of The Community Chest, all donations can be allocated to 148 social welfare agencies, without any deduction, to help more than 1,700,000 needy and disadvantaged in Hong Kong.

The charity event has successfully raised over HK$3.8 million to benefit the “Services for Physically Handicapped" supported by the Chest.
