The Community Chest Said Thank-You for Over HK$300 Million Donations in 2016/2017

The Community Chest President Mrs Regina Leung paid tribute to 250 individuals and organisations for their contribution to the Chest’s 2016/2017 campaign year at the Annual Awards Ceremony on 26 June 2017. The year brought in over HK$300 million in donations for the Chest to fund local social welfare services for more than two million beneficiaries annually.
 
The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (the Bank) received the Top Donor of the Year Award for the 17th year for donating more than HK$16 million. The Bank also matched their staff donation dollar-for-dollar through The Hongkong Bank Foundation.
 
Cheung Kong Group was presented with the Second Top Donor Award with donations to The Community Chest Rainbow Fund Donation Hotline to help people in financial crisis. The Third Top Donor, Sun Hung Kai Properties has been an active participant in many fund-raising events. CSOP Asset Management Limited, The Wharf (Holdings) Limited, Ding Kuen Charity Fund Limited, Hang Seng Bank, Maxim’s Group, Nameson Group and Sa Sa Making Life Beautiful Charity Fund Limited were presented with the Fourth to Tenth Top Donors respectively.
 
The Hong Kong Jockey Club was presented the “Partner in Charity Award” for their generous annual grant toward the Chest’s administrative expenses.
 
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, who was presented the “Promoter in Corporate Giving Award”, has initiated a unique fund-raising platform – “Stock Code Balloting for Charity Scheme” since 1999 to provide companies who listed in Hong Kong the option to choose their stock codes by making a donation to the Chest. In 2016/2017, 72 companies took part in this Scheme and over HK$69 million was raised.
 
“The Community Chest Award for Outstanding Service” was presented to Athletic Veterans of Hong Kong for their professional advice and logistics support to “The Community Chest Corporate Challenge”, and to famous TV programme presenter Mr Nat Chan for his hosting of the annual “Community for the Chest” Television Show and other charity auctions.
 
In the Civil Service category, the 2016/2017 Top Donor award went to the Education Bureau for its role in promoting “Greening for the Chest” among local primary and secondary schools. Second Top Donor award went to Home Affairs Department for promoting the Chest in the 18 districts. Third Top Donor award went to Hong Kong Police Force who had organised the “Police Concert for Community” for “Services for Children with Special Educational Needs”.
 
The Top Donor of the Year (Home Affairs Department Districts Category) award went to Kowloon City District for their generous contribution. Tai Po District and Central and Western District were awarded the Second and Third Top Donor titles respectively.
 
The Chest’s 2016/2017 Board Members including Mr Peter Wong, JP; Mrs Irene Yau, ISO; Mr Charles Yang, BBS, JP; Mr Billy Kong, BBS, MH, JP; Mr Vernon Moore, BBS; Dr John Chan, GBS, JP; Campaign Committee Co-Chairmen Mr Charles Lee, GBM, JP; Dr Dennis Sun, BBS, JP as well as other members were present at the Ceremony.

CSOP Asset Management Limited has contributed to the Chest through the “Stock Code Balloting for Charity Scheme” and was presented with the Fourth Top Donor Award. The Wharf (Holdings) Limited has shown their support by organising events in their shopping malls to raise funds for the Chest and helped steer the “Swim for Millions”. The organisation was presented with the Fifth Top Donor Award. Ms Yen Leng (right), Director of The Wharf (Holdings) Limited received the award from Mrs Regina Leung, President of The Community Chest.
