2017/2018 Hong Kong and Kowloon Walk for Millions Garnered Wide Support to Benefit Family and Child Welfare Services

Over 17,000 participants from more than 170 teams and individuals were gathered at Hong Kong Stadium on 14 January to take part in The Community Chest “2017/2018 Hong Kong and Kowloon Walk for Millions”. This event – now in its 48th year – is the Chest’s longest running, signature fund-raiser. All donations go to Family and Child Welfare Services provided by 24 of Chest’s 161 member welfare agencies. In 2017/2018, Family and Child Welfare Services would receive over $36 million funding.
 
The Starting Ceremony was officiated by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region the Honourable Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor in the company of Mr Charles Lee, President of The Community Chest; Mr Peter T S Wong, Executive Committee Chairman, Deputy Chairmen Mr Billy Kong, Ms Rose Lee and Mr Vernon F Moore; Dr Simon Kwok, Campaign Committee Chairman, Co-Chairmen Mr Pong Kin Yee, Paulo, Dr Dennis Sun and Mr Michael Wu; Mrs Irene Yau Lee Che-yun, Public Relations Committee Chairman; Mr Frank Lyn, Treasurer; “2017/2018 Hong Kong and Kowloon Walk for Millions” Organising Committee Chairman Dr Irene Tang, and Co-Chairmen Mr Wilson Pong, Mr Matthew Wong and Mr Vincent Wong; Ms Janice Tse, Director of Home Affairs and Ms Michelle Li, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services. Celebrities from Television Broadcasts Ltd and ViuTV also formed teams to pitch in their support.
 
The 10 km charity walk began at Hong Kong Stadium, taking participants through Wong Nai Chung Gap Road, Black’s Link, Aberdeen Reservoir Road and finishing at Aberdeen Country Park Visitors Centre. All participants each received a certificate of appreciation at the finish point.
 
The Chest would like to thank the Home Affairs Department and other government departments, and uniformed groups for their support to make the event a success.
