Playright Children's Play Association - Bringing Joy to Children in Hospital

Soon after birth, Heidi had been diagnosed with congenital heart disease and was admitted into the Princess Margaret Hospital. Accompanying her in the quiet children's ward were numerous beeping monitors and a breathing machine.

The Hospital Play Services (under the Playright Children's Play Association subvented by The Chest) soon stepped in to bring a little sunshine into Heidi's life. Using creative toys, the play therapist communicated with Heidi and helped her have a happier stay during her hospital treatment. Under the care of medical staff and her mother, Heidi gradually recovered from her illness and was able to return home to lead a healthy and happy life.

“Heidi's fragile little body was surrounded by lots of equipment and machines and I felt so helpless looking at her struggling with every breath. The family was very distressed that Heidi had to face this treatment at such a young age and we knew we must give her love and support”, said her mother. “But we never thought that she'd play and be happy! When I saw Heidi laughing and throwing herself into the games, I couldn't stop myself from crying with tears of joy and appreciation….”
