Second Chapter of Life — Stay Active, Embracing a Dramatic Journey
Retiree Cat, now in her seventies, has been a dedicated member of “Silver Stage" Drama Club for nearly 20 years. Since joining in 2007, she has performed in more than twelve stage plays and numerous public performances, including 72 Tenants, The Shih Family, Anti-Ageing Grease, and this year’s Old Souls in 2040, a production addressing the prevention of elder abuse.
A devoted performer, Cat attends rehearsals every week, rain or shine. She cherishes every rehearsal and seizes every opportunity to step onto the stage. For her, retirement is not merely about “getting by” — it is about living a vibrant, meaningful, and fulfilling life. She often says, “The more I perform with the drama society, the more addicted I become. I will keep acting until I can no longer walk!”
Cat’s most unforgettable experience was participating in the drama club’s first production, 72 Tenants. It was her debut performance at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall with an audience of over a thousand. She played the role of an eighteen-year-old girl. Although the character had few lines, it required massive movement and stage positioning to convey youthful energy which was a significant challenge for her at the time.
To deliver a wonderful performance, Cat and her fellow drama club members rehearsed intensively, encouraging and supporting one another. Through persistent effort, the production was a great success, and the audience responded enthusiastically with warm applause. This memorable experience not only gave her immense confidence, but also a driving force for her continued dedication to the drama club and her journey on stage.
Cat hopes that sharing her story will encourage the seniors to participate in more community activities, explore new interests, and expand their social networking to build a positive and active life. She believes that retirement is not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter.
