2024-05-31

To commemorate the Community Chest 55th anniversary, the Chest held Cinema Quintet, a short films programme to encourage young people to get a better understanding of societal needs, and to manifest the spirit of Hong Kong people helping Hong Kong people.

The Cinema Quintet Premiere was successfully held on 27 May 2024 at Grand Stair, M+ of West Kowloon Cultural District. Over 300 guests including Chest’s Board and Committee members, member agencies, the 5 director-mentors with the student production teams, and the event sponsor Hang Seng Bank attended the Premiere.

Dr Simon Kwok, Chairman of the Community Chest Executive Committee; Dr Pamela Chan, Chairman of the Public Relations Committee; and Ms Diana Cesar, Executive Director and Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank, officiated the premiere ceremony. The five director-mentors, Mr Steve Chan, Mr Chan Kin Long, Mr Ho Cheuk Tin, Mr Jun Li, and Mr Eric Tsang attended the premiere and a sharing session after the films viewing. Esteemed veteran actors Ms Chan Lai-wun, Ms Alice Fung So Bor and Ms Hui So-ying who participated in the micro films, also attended the premiere to support the young generation.

The Community Chest extends its heartfelt gratitude to the five directors who led five teams of post-secondary students to produce microfilms based on five beneficiary stories. The project not only provided students with an opportunity to learn professional filmmaking, through research and interviewing the beneficiaries and caseworkers, participating students also got a deeper understanding of the various social issues.

The five micro films cover trending social issues, including support for caregivers, youth mental health, ethnic minorities and disability inclusion. The creative blueprints are based on real stories of beneficiaries supported by the Chest.

The Chest is grateful to all the on-screen and behind-the-scenes crew members, special guest performers, and participating member agencies for their support and dedication. Deep gratitude went to Hang Seng Bank for their generous sponsorship in covering all costs associated with this meaningful initiative.

The five micro films are now available for public viewing on social media platforms. Charity private screenings can also be arranged for donors who would like to support this initiative.
