In view of the severe impact caused to numerous families and individuals by the five-alarm fire at Tai Po Wang Fuk Court yesterday, the Chest expresses its deepest sorrow to the families of the deceased and the injured. To help those affected, the Chest has decided to immediately allocate HK$50 million from its reserves to set up the “The Community Chest Tai Po Fire Relief Fund” to provide urgent financial assistance to families and individuals impacted by the fire.
At the same time, the Chest announces that all donations raised from the Hong Kong & Kowloon Walk for Millions – Central Kowloon Bypass (Yau Ma Tei section) will be fully allocated to “The Community Chest Tai Po Fire Relief Fund”.
The Chest recognises its responsibility to support the community in times of crisis. Through the Social Welfare Department, a condolence payment will be made to each bereaved family. The Community Chest will collaborate with member agencies’ assessment centres in Tai Po and North District (details refer to the attachment) to assist affected individuals and families with funding applications, ensuring that resources are swiftly delivered to those in need. The Chest will continue to closely monitor the situation and work with all stakeholders to ensure that families affected by this tragedy will receive timely assistance.
