The Community Chest swiftly allocated HK$50 million from its reserves to set up “The Community Chest Tai Po Fire Relief Fund” (“the Fund”) on 27 November to provide urgent financial assistance to families and individuals impacted by the five-alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po. A condolence payment of HK$50,000 will be given to each bereaved family, and a relief grant of HK$20,000 to each affected household through this difficult time.
As of today (1 December), 1,821 affected households have registered to apply for the Fund. Thanks to the full support of the eight assessment centres, HK$31,980,000 has been swiftly granted to 1,599 affected households, while the remaining 222 applications are being processed. Condolence payments of HK$50,000 each will be distributed to the bereaved families through the Social Welfare Department.
The Chest sincerely thanks the public for their generous support of “The Community Chest Tai Po Fire Relief Fund”. All donations received will be allocated in full to provide timely relief to families and individuals impacted by the fire, with no deduction of administrative expenses.
