Project Description:

Macular diseases is one of the leading causes of blindness among the elderly, and its prevalence continues to rise due to the ageing population in Hong Kong. As macular diseases progress rapidly, the first few months are crucial for effective treatment. However, long waiting times at public hospital specialist eye clinics often result in patients missing this critical window. On the other hand, the cost of medications in the private market is beyond affordability of many patients.

The Chest supports the member agency in providing subsidies to patients diagnosed with macular diseases who face financial hardship to receive consistent and timely treatment. This helps relieve their financial burden so as to preserve and stablise patients’ vision and enhance their quality of life.
