A Vote of Confidence for Hong Kong's Favourite Charity
The Community Chest To Administer HSBC $100 Million Donation
The Community Chest of Hong Kong (the Chest) is honored to accept the invitation from HSBC to administer the allocation of HK$100 million of the HK$477 million from the HSBC 150th Anniversary Charity Programme (the Programme), it was announced yesterday. The fund comes from net proceeds from the sale of commemorative HSBC 150th Anniversary Banknotes in March 2015.
In accepting the appointment, the Chest will oversee the prudent allocation pursuant to funding applications by its member agencies, and those of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, benefitting more than 450 eligible agencies. The Programme aims to support initiatives that address the current service needs of Hong Kong, to improve the lives and the well-being of Hong Kong people, and to foster mutual help and capacity building. Priority will be given to initiatives targeting the disadvantaged.

In response, Chest Executive Committee Deputy Chairman Mr Vernon Moore BBS said, "We applaud the HSBC for their support to local community, and for honoring us with such an important portfolio; it's great responsibility and I'm confident that the Chest will manage the funding with our usual professionalism, to ensure the best match of resources and social needs."

About The Community Chest of Hong Kong
The Community Chest of Hong Kong was established in 1968 as an independent, non-profit making organization neither funded, nor operated by the Government. Each year, the Chest organizes fund-raising events to benefit over 150 member social welfare agencies that reach out to more than two million beneficiaries in Hong Kong. The Chest’s administrative costs come from a subsidized grant from The Hong Kong Jockey Club, in addition to income from investments. This allows the Chest to allocate 100% of funds raised to six major areas of services: children & youth, elderly, family & childwelfare, medical & health, rehabilitation & aftercare, and community development. This operation model makes the Chest unique among its peers, and helps fulfil its mission to act as trustee of the donors.
